RESEARCH: Review of Favourite Student Work

My favourite student work belongs a group of girls that I believe done a great job and their video really drew me in. The genre they chose was very intelligent and they managed to stick to the conventions of that type of genre which was impressive.

The video is a disjuncture to the song as it has nothing related to the lyrics. I really liked this idea because it meant that they could experiment with different locations and outfits more freely without having to focus on a story to tell. I also realised that the camera is never static, it is always moving around and I think that was what made it even better. Although the song was not a slow one, it had a certain beat to it and they edited it wisely by changing the shots according to the beat of the song. As well as that, the use of slow motion and fast motion were brilliant. They used it at the right times and I especially liked it when the camera panned around her and they edited that into fast motion. The use of jump cuts were also very effective and made the video better to watch as it prevented it from getting tedious.

I also liked the fact that there were not too many location and costume changes because it made it easier to focus on her representation which was excellent and therefore focus on the artist. The lighting of the video was also very good. Although they filmed most of it at night time, there was never a moment where it was too dark or I could not see what was going on. It was very well directed and the camera woman also done a very good job.
