PRODUCTION - Second day of filming, Southbank (01/11/13) brief journal

Second day of filming, Southbank

  • On Friday morning the 1st of November we had arranged to meet up at Vauxhall station so that we could make our ways to Southbank together.
  • We had previously agreed for Joel to bring in his laptop with him so that we as a group could overlook the footage from our first day of filming.
  • As we walked towards the skate-park and along the river we encountered many street performers that were willing to interact with Karma as part of our video including some boys at the skate park
  • We filmed various low, high, short and long distant shots of Karma, Skateboarders, BMX riders and even street dancers.
  • After filming Joel had taken the memory cards home and we had opened up a whatsapp group to overview and discuss the footage.
  • We found that most of the shots were out of focus and had come to a conclusion that we will definitely need to use and come back to Southbank for another session of recording.

PRODUCTION - Video structure changes

Video structure changes

  • Previously, we had visualised our video to start through our base track in south bank however after the first day of filming at Brick Lane Joel had time to overlook the footage and he gave feedback to us which was very positive.
  • After listening to his feedback and viewing some pictures of the footage, we as a group shared Joels opinion to start the video from Brick Lane as the camera work and shot types seem to match our pitch and actual video ideas and concepts in terms of editing and even Laura Mulvey's male gaze theory.
  • However, we all understand we must not get ahead of ourselves as we have only filmed the first base track so we have as a group decided to wait until we have all the footage to make clear points and significant input on what and how the video will look and be ordered in.

(PRODUCTION) - Pictures from Bricklane !

PICTURES!

PRODUCTION: Day 1 Of Filming

Our first day of filming took place at Brick Lane. We headed down to the wall we had originally gone to during planning and had to decided to film in front of. Unfortunately this wall had been sprayed over and we all agreed that the new design on the wall did not fit our video or suit our artist.

We had a look around Brick Lane and it wasn't long before we found another wall which we actually liked better than our first wall that we had decided on. Filming went well today, we managed to film a whole base track at Brick lane and we also found a few other locations in Brick Lane which we filmed in as potential bits of footage we could add into the video.

The group agreed that Carina's performance as Karma was very strong and she came across very well on Camera. We found that after looking back at footage we had forgot some crucial points such as to look out for shadows in the background made by the light when it was sunny.

Overall the day didn't exactly go as we thought it would, but the locations we found were actually better than our initial ones, making day one a success!

PLANNING: Reflection On Progress

PRODUCTION - First day of filming, Bricklane (25/10/13) brief journal

First day of filming, Bricklane (25/10/13)

  • We had arranged to come to our media lesson 15 minutes early in order have enough time to film the whole performance of karma at Brick lane and get one out of 3 base tracks out of the way.
  • After discussing with Rebecca's a brief overview and reminder of all the do's and dont's of filming music videos we headed out and by 9 30 we were on Brick lane.
  • We walked past the wall we wanted to originally film at and it appeared that artists had drawn over the image we wanted to use, However after further exploration we had come across various landscapes and walls that we could use and had come across the perfect background wall for most of the base track in Brick lane.
  • After a long hard day we had wrapped it up and successfully as a group come to a conclusion that we had finished one of our 3 base tracks.

PLANNING - Reflection On My Progress

(PRODUCTION OF MUSIC VIDEO) - First Day Filming

On Friday 26th of October we went out for our first filming session. We filmed for roughly  2 hours in Brick Lane.  It went really well since the part we were filming was Urban as we was looking for and also Carina's costume went well with the surrounding area. We all took it in turns to help film and whilst someone was filming, we each helped in a different way, for example taking still photos or operating the speakers and original track. Also as a group we were able to think of many different shots and ideas we could use in the music video which was really Positive.  Also the weather was good to us so we was able to finish the majority of that base track.

(PLANNING) - Tests Shots of Karma

Tests Shots of Karma

Karma, to be played by Karina is a young upcoming singer/performer so in order to establish what type of themes within the locations were going to cover and address and also to discover the various shot types and camera works associated with genre conventions of our song. So we took test shots of Karma in the various positions she will be required to be in, in the music video.

(PLANNING) - Reflection Of My Progress

Since my last reflection of progress which I gave myself a score of 14/20, I have improved drastically.  I think so far all my blogs have been done with a good amount of detail and relevance. I have also tried to use a number of different techniques to share my blogs with the teachers. These range from Photobucket to GIFS and even slideshares. Also since the last reflection of progress I have received positive feedback from my media teachers, which I was pleased about. Therefore  I would rise my mark to 17/20 and hopefully I can continue to improve during the later stages of the course.

PRODUCTION OF MUSIC VIDEO: First Day of Filming (Unfinished)

Yesterday we had our first filming day in Brick Lane. We were happy with the weather which was sunny and not too cold, however we still had umbrellas to protect the equipment just in case it began to rain.

When we got to Brick Lane, we went to the wall where we wanted to film at but unfortunately it had been painted over as the graffiti in Brick Lane are constantly changing. Because of this we had to walk around Brick Lane to find another wall that would fit our concept quite well. We found an excellent wall and we decided that it would be the perfect place to film. When we looked back at the footage we had, it looked really good against the wall we had chosen and we decided to film a big part there. We then went on to filming on some stairs and I spotted a red rose painted on the stairs. This was perfect as our synergy product is a red rose.

PLANNING: Our Synergy Methods.

From our music video to our Digi Pack all artists have a symbol, sign or theme that their fans will know them for. As a group we brainstormed on different ideas that would work for our artists and that we could use on our digi pack and also include in the video.

After considering many ideas we came to the decision that our artist Karma (Carina) would be known for wearing very bright lipstick, also she would be known for having a rose  in the video and we would continue this idea when designing our digi pack or any posters in the future.

Our ideas were inspired from RnB artist Rita Ora, who is known for her bright red lipstick in her videos.

A shot of Rita Ora from her R.I.P video.

Our rose idea came from the broken hearted girl video by beyonce. During the video beyonce is seen with a rose. The footage is then re-winded which makes an effect on only the rose so that the petals come apart and fall back into place again. This inspired us to use a rose in our video as our song is a song about love and roses are known as a symbol for love and romance.

A shot of Beyonce from her Broken Hearted Girl Video.

PLANNING: Target Audience

Research showed that for our genre (which is pop/RnB), our wider target audience would be young adults and teenagers. These are the people that came up the most for downloading albums and singles and also buying CDs in stores.

When taking a closer look at our target audience we found that our target audience were aged 16 - 21. Studies show that the reason behind this age group swaying towards this kind of genre is because they are the generation that like to aspire to a celebrity lifestyle. This age group like to see the glamour, expensive and extravagant things that appear in many pop but more so RnB genres.

As well as looking for evidence online, as a group went asked females and males in our target audience age group what kind of music they liked. We asked 25 females and 25 males if they preferred pop or another genre of music. Our results showed that 71% of girls said that they liked pop over another genre whereas 76% of males said that they preffered another genre rather than pop.

As a group we came to the conclusion that our music video would be targeting the female audience more than the male.

This worked out well for us as we have Carina as our performer and the song will be shot from her perspective which will be something other teenage girls can relate to.

(All of the info about our target audience above was included in our pitch!)

PLANNING: How Did The Pitch Go?

Looking back at our pitch I think it went quite well. We had a few issues towards the end of bringing our presentation together as a member of our group wasn't in for one of the lessons which meant we were forced to work under pressure on the morning of our pitch but despite this we managed to complete our presentation in time.

My role in the pitch was to talk about Synergy and Costume. I think I executed these slides well and I feel I presented the information about our rose idea and red lipstick to the rest of the class. The pitch also brought constructive criticism which was a positive as we can now improve our video. A member of our class suggested that we change one of the outfits for one of the locations. After discussing it in our group after the presentation we decided that it was a good idea and that we would have more of an urban look for our Brick Lane location.

One negative about our presentation was our animatic, although it was finished and up to standard I feel we could have made a few adjustments to make the animatic more visually interesting. Nevertheless it shows our ideas and acts as a storyboard for our music video so it did meet the aims we were given.

Overall our pitch was a success and now that we have presented our ideas for our music video we can go ahead with filming!

PLANNING: How Did The Pitch Go?

My group and I presented our final pitch yesterday to our media class where we presented our final ideas for our music video. We discussed many things throughout the pitch and we interacted well with the class. I was personally very comfortable even though we were following up excellent pitches. I was very comfortable when presenting my part of the pitch and I thought that I was clear in the way I spoke and I hope everyone was clear. At the end of the pitch, we had some questions as well as suggestions on some of our ideas which proves that people were aware of what we were talking about and were paying close attention.

I do think that our animatic could have been better but we will work on it as a group and we will try to improve it. I think everyone in my group presented very well and we all knew exactly what we were talking about and we were all in sink.

I am now ready to begin filming and I hope that we can start on the 25th October 2013.

PLANNING: Synergy Incorporation

In our music video, we have decided that we will have a theme throughout. We were watching through existing videos of some of the artists we liked and I came across Beyonce's 'Broken Hearted Girl' video. I really liked the video and I spotted the rose used in the video and I thought it would go really well with what we wanted to do.

I thought we could have a healthy and beautiful rose at the beginning and as we go back to the rose at the end of the song, it is no longer beautiful and healthy and has withered and fallen apart. This would also represent the lyrics of the song that talk about her being disappointed. The idea of the rose would then continue on to the digipak. Perhaps she will be holding a rose or there will be a rose somewhere on the digipak.

Also, since we decided on having very simple make-up. we thought it would be good for Karma to have a strong lip colour throughout. We thought of this by watching Rita Ora's video 'RIP' in one of our media classes. On the digipak, we can also incorporate this idea and perhaps have a very close up picture of the artist where the bright lips are visible.

(PLANNING) - How I Performed During the Pitch??

When pitching to our class and teacher Rebecca, for some reason I felt nervous which is unusual for me. Having pitched third after to impressive groups I think I felt that our pitch would not live up to the standards already set even though as a group we worked well and hard. If I had to rate my performance during the pitch it would be a 6.5/10. Hopefully as a group we did the best we could on Friday...

Also we were able to gather good advice from other class mates during the questions and answers after we pitched. They suggested that we switched two costumes around because they will fit the locations better. As a group I am we will take it on board.

(PLANNING) - How We Divided Our Pitch!!

We divided Our Pitch Into Sections so we all could share the workload:

(PLANNING) - Incorporating Synergy

I am going to be incorporating synergy between the music video and my ancillary work by using a symbolic rose in the music video which will also feature in my ancillary work. Also it will be done through Karma's (our artists name) make up. Throughout the video she is going to be wearing extremely bright lipstick and on the front cover of my digipack karma will also be wearing the same colour.

Also both the rose and the lipstick is red. This has been done since red is a colour which symbolizes love as well as anger. The song we have chosen is a love song but it at the same time our artist Karma will be angry since she having relationship problems.

(PLANNING) - Analysis of music videos which influenced planning!!!

How it Influenced:

Setting and Location: This previous student  music video influenced are setting and location because all of the base tracks used in the video are Urban locations. As a group we wanted are music video to have an urban pop feel to it, so we analyzed this video to see how urban locations look in music videos. Personally I think that the locations used in the video was effective since the video was also filmed at night.

Editing: At the beginning of the video, they have used a number of jump cuts of the artistes face and upper torso. When edited together it helps draw the audiences attention to the artist. We will be using this in our music video. Also the slow motion used throughout the video has be done well because they have managed to keep the words lip synced whilst the artist has been slowed down. As a group we have been researching how to do this, so we can use it.

Camera: We will be using many shot types which have been used in the video above. Close ups, mid shots, wide shots, high and low angles will all be used. Also we will be tracking our artist to minimize the amount of static camera work.

How it Influenced:

Setting and Location: This video influenced our setting and locations as well as costume and make up. As you can see it has been filmed in a very urban area which is what we were planning to do, therefore it was once again vital we looked at how other artist have done it in their music videos. Also we looked at Rita Ora for the way she dresses and wear her make up. We though her image will suit ''Karma'' very well.

Camera and editing was also influence by this video. Many shot types throughout the video we will be incorporating into our own video, for example the way the video starts out with the shots of her walking. Also the jump shots are very effective. We will be our video beginning in a similar way.

How it Influenced:

This video purely influence our second location which is Southbank. When analysing this video, we liked the idea of Adele walking to the side of the river bank whilst singing into the camera. We though we could use this idea and make it ours. However we are going to develop it so it will suit our music genre more accurately. First of all our music video will not be in black and white, and it will not be shot as slow as the original, mainly because our song is not as slow as ''Like You''.

Our song also has a lot more energy to it so when we picked Southbank we realised that there are going to be many more people using the bank. This wasn't a problem because we decided that our artist Karma will be interacting with a few people a long the bank. This will suit our video better because in a way it matches the energy behind the performance.

As far as shot types go, we will be using a lot more camera shots than what has been used in someone like you. Having said that, the main tracking shot in that video will be used in our music video.

(PLANNING) - Target Audience...

Our wider ''Target Audience'' is mainly teenagers and young adults, however because this is quite general it was narrowed down to Urban teenagers and young adults between the ages of 16 and 21. From personal research I found an Urban Pop fans appearances are normally molded by mainstream media. Therefore because of this we knew we would be targeting people who are mainstream and aspire to live the celeb lifestyle i.e they wear the same expensive brands as their favourite artists do.

Neislan Conducted a Study On where teens watch and Purchase Music:

They Also found the following Statistics from 3000 online surveys conducted by teenagers:
  • More teens listen to music on YouTube (64%) than radio (56%), iTunes (53%) and CD (50%). Common knowledge might hold that teens don't listen to CD's, but there's only a 16 percentage-point difference between YouTube and CD's here.
  •  Over a third (36%) of teens have bought a CD in the last year while 51% of them have purchased some kind of music online
  • Teens are more likely than other age groups to have purchased music of any format (72% versus an average of 68%) in the last 12 months.
From the results above I was able to conclude that we would be targeting teens who prefer to use technology to consume music rather than traditional method. To capitalize on this I though we could incorporate some sort of technology into our music video to attract our target audience even more. It was also interesting to find out that our main target audience are more likely purchase music when compared with all other age groups. This was surprising because there's a misconception that the majority of illegal music downloads are carried out by teenagers.

Gender

I also decided to conduct some of my own target audience research and went round and asked 25 males and 25 females if the preferred Pop or another type of music genre. I found that 76% of males said they like another genre more than pop whereas 71% of females stated they preferred pop music. From these results it was clear that we could be targeting females more than males when producing are music video.

To conclude the target audience is:

''Mainstream following urban female teenagers who consume music through modern technology''

PLANNING - (PITCH) Feedback on Pitch and how we think we performed as a group...

Group Feedback

As a group at the end of the pitch we were relieved as definitely before the pitch we were nervous and the two groups who we had to follow up were actually very impressive in terms of their pitch and also their method of pitching.

The pitch had started and we slowly started interacting with the class members and teacher and all of a sudden the nerves had went and we were all comfortable with the tasks that we were assigned to and everyone seemed to explain their assigned tasks quite distinctively.

At the end of the pitch I think when we asked if anyone had any questions we actually had quite a few comments saying that our pitch had been very good, but focusing more on the questions we were asked about the Risk Assessment and and we had provided them with the answers they were looking for.

Some class members actually had some significant advice which we were actually very happy about because it pointed out to us some of our flaws in our actual ideas and theories on how our performer (Karma) should be dressed.

PLANNING - (PITCH) How I think I done in the pitch

Pitch Performance

As I have stated before, the tasks I was assigned to were Green screen, Theory, Risk assessment and Social media. However in the pitch these four tasks were all together on the power point and I had explained them thoroughly one after the other. I think I done well however I feel as if I should have maybe practiced what I was going to say. We were rushing during the end and even stayed back to upload everything on time however even as a group I don't think we had enough speaking preparation and planning time.

I feel as if I had not just read the interactive white board word for word to explain each of the tasks I was assigned to however I think I had expanded on what I had written and made eye contact with rebecca as well as some of the other members of our class.

In terms of feedback I think I am going to ask my very own group members where my strong and weak points were in my actual pitching performance and I will do the same for them in return, hopefully this proves to be a good learning curve for future pitching of ideas whether they be on Media products like the music video or other things.

PLANNING - (PITCH) Tasks I have been assigned to !

Pitch Tasks

Our Pitch has been planned out in accordance to what the teachers have asked us to cover but we have also done some independent research for the benefit of our whole project. So the teachers set us 16 tasks and seeing as we have four group members we equally split it up into four each. I had missed the lesson where the 16 tasks and preparation for the pitch were handed out but I was assigned four of these tasks from one of my group members Carina. I had been given Green Screen, Social media, Theory and Risk assessment, below I will briefly describe and explain what I had to include for them all.

Green Screen:

- In this part of the pitch which I was personally required to undertake, I have to explain why we are not going to be using green screen.

Risk Assessment:

- In this specific part I have to explain the possible risks for us when we are filming and some dangers we are going to come across. I will simply highlight these however the important part is that I will have to state the actions and precautions we will take to avoid these dangers.

Theory:

- In this part of the pitch which I have been assigned I will have to explain to our audience pitch and type up  how our narrative structure will go in accordance or contrast against Andrew Goodwins theory. Also I will talk about Laura Mulveys, Male gaze theory and Carol Vernalis's theory of repetition.

Social Media

- This part of the pitch at this moment of time I feel is quite outgoing, fun and seen as an experiment that can be used for target audience research but the main priority for me is to set up this account and ensure while we are planning and actually producing the music video our teachers know that we are safe and not up to any tomfoolery.

PLANNING - Synergy Incorperation into 3 products!

Synergy Incorporation

3 PRODUCTIONS:

  1. Music Video
  2. Album Cover
  3. Album Advertisement
  • In these 3 productions I will be undergoing serious amounts of research, a plethora of planning but the main part will always be the actual production of these 3 items. However focusing much more closely on clear part of the 3 products that is actually crucial for the whole advanced portfolio project I will need to include synergy in all 3 items. This willl be difficult as we must include detailed plans of the target audience, what we are going to synergize and how this will affect the audience for our products.
- For our performer in all three products we will use the same font and colour when using her name or presenting her name in any 3 of the products

- Secondly as a group we have decided in terms of branding and arguably synergy our performer Karma will be wearing a beanie hat in some of the products so our audience feel a urban vibe from it but more importantly so that the trend catches on amongst our target audience.

- Furthermore, we will be using the same sort of colour and lighting tone through out three of the product but espeacially in the music video, this will bring a colour to the head of our target audience when they think of our performer. in some ways this can be seen as branding however it is actully just a good way of

PLANNING: Costume, setting, props and location

Costumes and Props:

We chose this to be the first outfit of the video. We chose quite an urban look since the artist is urban and we thought it would go well with the setting which is Southbank.

We then chose this outfit which will go with a black beanie hat. She will be wearing this when we film at King's Cross as it will be filmed during the night. We thought this was the most appropriate outfit for King's Cross since it is colder at night time and the jumper makes the video more realistic.

We then decided this would be the outfit for Brick Lane. The reason behind this particular outfit for Brick Lane is that it is an especially urban place. We thought this outfit looked very urban due-to the necklace and the red lipstick she will be wearing.

We decided to keep the make-up quite simple and follow most urban female artists with the simple eyeliner and mascara. We will then be choosing a lipstick colour according to the outfit.

These are some of the props we will be using in the music video. The black beanie hat will be worn with outfit number 2. The necklace will be worn with outfit number 3 as shown in the picture above.

Locations:

This is one of our locations. We chose the Southbank because we thought that it would be a good place to transmit quite an urban vibe and the area is well known. We also thought it was a good place to film because it is relatively busy, but not too busy at the times we are planning to film.

PLANNING - Previous Music Video

ANALYSIS OF ORIGINAL VIDEO

Ellie Goulding – You my everything is a very upbeat song and before deciding what song we will choose for our music video we had our plans, ideas and theories already visualised and this song had in every way matched our thoughts in terms of the pace and tempo and even some of the timing of the whole narrative. However this song did not have a music video previously which we as a group saw as an advantage because of the fact that we will not rely on or mirror any of the original ideas of the video or have something to compete with and get side-tracked.

Seeing as we do not have a previous video to work on I will instead use another one of Ellie Goulding’s music videos as I have found that the genre conventions she uses such as synergy, costume, props , Audience Etc is actually quite similar so in actual fact I will be posting an analysis on Ellie Gouldings video for ‘Burn’ and then using the analysis to state clearly how our video and ideas will differ.

In screenshot one we can clearly see the high tone of the lighting and this is very typical for Ellie Goulding videos, we also note that she is pictured alone and in the centre of the shot to portray her importance, innocence and even her isolation. This makes her look very vulnerable to the audience yet it upholds a branded style of Ellie Goulding. The high key Lighting again is very common and her videos usually see high volumes of it however we will not be replicating this although Ellie Goulding is a urban pop artist we will be going for a much more urban look however at some points of the music video our ideas and suggestions are to actually follow this Ellie Goulding ‘convention’ as it can be seen as putting the performer on the spotlight and in key focus.

Here is  a distinctive example of some of the synergy costumes and props Ellie Goulding tends to use In all her videos and in this case it is her hat/hoodie, we as a group had actually liked this idea and our performer Karma has been assigned a beanie hat to wear throughout one of the base racks of our music video. The hoodie gives the whole video some what of an urban vibe.

Behind Ellie Goulding in this image is something crucial to her image, in all her videos and especially this one she uses lighting as some sort of a natural editing technique again it gives a rural urban vibe however the more important thing to note is that this idea is one that we actually fully agree with and will use. In one of our base tracks we will have multi coloured lights behind our performer. The idea of this is to sort of synergize lighting and colours for our audience through the performer. Also in this shot we note that Ellie Goulding is actually very animatic and she likes to dance and move a lot, we disagree with the quick movements but our performers gradual movements will be speeded up by the quick cuts we will make during our editing time, we will also have to work very closely on the actual pace of our video.

PLANNING - Analyse 3 music videos that have influenced your planning decisions !!

PLANNING - (PITCH) Risk Assesment

Risk Assessment:

Last year we were required to fill out various forms for use of school equipment during plenty of our projects both prelim and actual recordings, however especially in our actual thriller recordings and filming sessions last year we had to undergo various safety procedures and this is the case during our advanced portfolio filming sessions. So as a class firstly we have already filled in a form that consents us to take cameras home or away from college during our half term holiday if necessary. Below is a list of the dates we are going to be filming.

OCTOBER: 18th, 25th

HALF TERM: 31st, 1st, 2nd

NOVEMBER: 6th, 8th, 13th

We must undertake weather forecasts for these dates shown and focus on what times it is safe for us to film and take the equipment out seeing as the locations chosen for our video require quite a bit of travelling. Before filming we must ensure the surface area is cler so neither performer or our group member eecording slip or fall and injure themselves and damage equipment.

Above is a clear weather forecast outline for the first few dates that we are filming and if you look clearly it is actuallyraining or drizzling on three ocasions and on these occasions we must take a safety precaution which will be to hold up umbrellas above the cameras.

We also have to be aware that we are filming in locations at night so we will also face other safety issues. There is a possibility that are camera equipment can be stolen so we have to take extra caution when filming in these locations and avoid filming in any dark alleys etc.

We will be filming in locations which contain water for example south bank, because of this we will need to keep all the equipment away from the river Thames. This area is also know to be very busy so filming with a lot people around us may cause bystanders to try get in the camera frame which means we need to add in extra time for filming, or not film at peak times.

PLANNING: No Previous Music Video

Our song is 'You, My Everything' by the artist Ellie Goulding. Our group was aware of the song because it featured in the E4 show Skins, however it has not been released as a single and it does not have a video. This is a positive as it gives us creative freedom to make a video with no pre-expectations which is something we may have faced if we chose a popular song with a well known music video.

(PLANNING) Website Analysis...

(PLANNING) Previous Music Video...

The song we have chosen to do, does not have a previous music video. This is good because it means that it is going to be hard for our group to be influenced by another music video. Therefore when are music video is produced, it is going to be unique and will not be judge as a comparison with the original music video. Also because a music video has not been shot for the song already it has given us a chance to express ourselves and create something which symbolizes our ''Made Up'' artist through a popular British music genre, which is something many people do not have the chance to do.

PLANNING: Introducing our Artist

PLANNING: Copyright Clearance

This is our copy right clearance for Ellie Goulding's song 'You, my everything'. We have requested clearance and we are now waiting for the reply from Polydor Records.

(PLANNING) Why We Choose: Ellie Goulding - You, My Everything

Why We Choose: Ellie Goulding - You, My Everything

We choose this as our final song for a number of different reasons:

  • Firstly we realised You, My Everything was an unreleased studio track. This means it did not have an official video, which means are video would be unique.
  • As a group we liked the song, because it had a good beat and the lyrics weren't over complicated, so when it came to lip syncing we thought it would be relatively simple.
  • Also for the genre type we could think of a lot of great ideas which we could do, whereas for the other songs on our potential songs the genre conventions would be harder to re create.

RESEARCH: Reflection On Progress.

I feel that I have improved on my blogging, last year I stuck mainly to written posts and often forgot about adding pictures and videos. This year I've added more pictures and different types of media, when appropriate to make my blog look more visually interesting.

I also feel like I understand blogger much better now, as there were some things I found hard to do on my blog last year such as embed videos and I also made mistakes such as saving a post as a draft by accident and not publishing it. This year I would say I am very comfortable with the site and this has made it much easy to complete my blog posts.

In terms of improvement, I think I could learn how to use Slideshare better as there may be upcoming tasks that involve showing a presentation and at the end of last year I still had a few problems with handling presentations with Slideshare. Other than that I feel that I am handling blogging much better compared to last year, and as long as I stick to the blogging deadlines I should have no problems with blogging tasks for media,

RESEARCH: Re-edited Version Of Previous Student's Work (Unfinished)

RESEARCH: Skills Audit

In my AS year of media I learnt that research was a vital process when making a film. In my AS year, social media sites came in very handy for research such as getting feedback and I found myself relying on sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Youtube to get an audience's opinion.

In my AS year I also had to find sites that would help me present my research once I had conducted it. I got familiar with sites such as Prezi, Slideshare and Photobucket when showing my research to my teachers. These are all sites that I had never used before so it was useful to find out about new ways to present my work. I now feel confident when using these sites and will consider them when completing work for A2.

Although I feel my research in AS went fairly well, there are definitely a few ways I could improve. I remember in AS when I had to conduct feedback on our rough cut of our thriller we left it very close to the deadline to ask people on Facebook. We were lucky that we were able to get a few responses but we could've got more if we had asked questions earlier. I will try to rectify this in A2 by looking at any upcoming feedback tasks or tasks that involve contacting an audience as feedback isn't always immediate and sometimes you do have to wait a while to get a response.
